My colleague Dan Bosnyak and I are auditory neuroscientists in the Department of Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behavior at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Our laboratory studies how experience with sound changes the way that the brain processes auditory stimuli (a phenomenon called “neural plasticity”). We also study how neural plasticity is involved in tinnitus, and the mechanisms underlying this disorder. Many researchers around the world are interested in these questions, and insight into both questions comes from many sources. Our laboratory at McMaster is only one such source. You can visit our lab by clicking here.

The purpose of this blog is to provide answers and commentary on some basic questions about tinnitus. Other researchers may express a different or more precise view on the questions posed here, and when this happens, we will update our information. We are keenly aware that no single individual or scientific discipline knows all the answers about tinnitus.
