Do I need a special type of computer or operating system to take the test? No, any computer with access to the internet is sufficient. Your computer should have speakers (many computers have integrated speakers already - if you can hear sound coming from your computer, you already have speakers) or you should be able to connect headphones to it.
What will the test tell me? The test will match the pitch of your tinnitus. You will be able to save this sound file in your account, and you'll then be able to track the intensity of your tinnitus over time.
Can I track my tinnitus over time? Yes. When you repeat your test you'll be able to compare it your results to previous tests.
Will this test cure my tinnitus? No. The test will not cure your tinnitus. We are developing a masker that will allow you to test your Residual Inhibition, that is, for how long your tinnitus dissapears after listening to a particular sound. Some companies claim that repeted listening to a masker will attenuate tinnitus over time.
Can I have a professional conduct a more precise test? Yes. Our service will be made available to ENT's, Audiologists, and other medical professionals who will conduct the test with more precise equipment.
How is McMaster University involved with this? The Human Neural Plasticity Laboratory of McMaster University developed the technology for this test. YourTinnitus.com performs the test under license from McMaster University.
How will my test results be used for research? If you authorize it, we will share your annonymous test result data with The Human Neural Plasticity Laboratory at McMaster University. The laboratory will use this data to further their research in tinnitus.
What is your privacy policy? We do not share your information with anyone and our privacy policy can be found here. Only annoymous test results, with the user's approval, are shared with McMaster University for research.
My test was interrupted, can I take it again? Yes. If your the examination did not reach its conclusion, you'll be able to retake the test. Of course, if you have the annual subscription, you can take the test as often as you want.
Can I upgrade my service from one time use to unlimited use for one year? No. We cannot give you credit for the cost of your one-time test towards the one year of unlimited tests.

For how long can I access my test results? Your test results will be available to you forever by logging in with your user name and password. This is true even after your subscription has expired.
Can I share my test results with anyone else? You can print out your test report, but we do not allow you to authorize another user to have access to your test. You can email a copy of your test report to anybody.

What are the additional costs after the set-up fee? There is a $19 per test fee.
Are the records of my patients secure? YourTinnitus.com uses high security AES-256 encryption, used for banking applications, for all private data. You login credentials are secured with a MD5 hash and are not stored on our servers in clear text. Our servers are housed in a SAS70 Type II-compliant data facility with 24/7 physical security with industry standard firewall protection. YourTinnitus.com scans its systems regularly to maintain PCI compliance. Keep in mind however, that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your and your patients’ personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security and therefore it is important for you to protect against unauthorized access to your password and to your computer. Be sure to sign off when finished using a shared computer.
What type of training do you offer? Your set-up fee includes a 1/2 day online training session. The software is extremely user friendly so it practically guides you through the entire process.
Are there any special computer skills required to conduct the tests? No. Even the most rudementery knowledge of a computer will suffice.
Will the website maintain the records for each of my patients tested? Yes, we maintain a permanent record of all the examinations you've conducted for all your patients.
What’s the cost of a replacement headphones with the integrated sound box? You can order replacement or additional headphones with integrated sound box for $499 each.
Should I order more than one headphone? Ordering a second set will prevent downtime in case your original set is damaged.
Can I use my own headphones? No. Your headphones do not have our integrated sound box which is necessary to conduct the examinations.

Is this test FDA approved? This test has not been submitted for approval to the FDA.

What’s the warranty of the headphones with integrated sound box? Your headphones and integrated sound box come with a 90 day warranty againt manufacturing defects. You may return defective headphones to: YourTinnitus.com c/o Walker Digital, 2 High Ridge Park, Stamford, CT 06905.
How do I get referrals for patients? Once you become a YourTinnitus.com service provider, you are automatically enrolled in our patient referral network. Patients looking for professional examinations in your area will be referred to you.

If you and each of your individual patients authorize it, we will share annonymous test result data with the researchers at The Human Neural Plasticity Laboratory at McMaster University. Can the sound file that creates the best Residual Inhibition on my patient be used as a masker? Yes, the sound file is, in essence, a masker.
What is Residual Inhibition? The inhibition or suppresion of tinnitus by use of a sound-generating device which masks the sounds of tinnitus and produces a residual sound-inhibiting effect when the device or sound is turned off.
If I have already performed the audiometry on a patient, can I skip the measurement of the patient's hearing spectrum? It is still advisable to perform the test as we currently have no way of integrating the result of your audiometry test with yourtinnitus.com in order to them determine the best tinnitus pitch match and masker.
What is the spectrum of frequencies tested? We test from approximately 125kHz to 8000 kHz.
How is the professional service different from the consumer service? The consumer service is a less in-depth measurement, requiring only about 20 mintues to perform. In addition, because users headphones and audio systems are not standardized there is some variation between different users' reports.
Can I access my patient's home tests? Yes, if your patient gives you access to the tests they have run using the personal service.
